My husband is annoyed with breastfeeding

by Joy Kemp
(Brick, NJ)

My daughter, Hannah just turned two. She has sensory processing disorder, which can make normal day to day situations very hard. Breastfeeding her regulates her, returns her to a normal state, and allows her to get back out there and carry on after becoming upset or uncomfortable. I assure you I am not obessessed with breastfeeding, I don't want to keep my child all to myself, or want to pretend she is still a baby. I have no ulterior motive except my daughter still pschycologically requires it. My husband and his family do not believe in breastfeeding, especially at her age. They believe in cribs, schedules, bottles, stollers, high chairs. All of which my daughter does not enjoy. I get comments from my in laws constantly, and my marriage will probably not make it due to this one issue. I never thought I would fight for the right to breastfeed my child, and be an advocate for her against her own family. I have no regrets and whatever comes I know I did the best for my child.
